The Prosecutor General's office has received court permission to conduct a special pre-trial investigation against the former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

The court allowed the special treatment in respect of fugitive Azarov in the case of liquefied gas.

According to Biznestsentr, the Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko said on his page in the network Facebook.

"Received yesterday a permit for a special pre-trial investigation against Mykola Azarov, who is suspected of a taking in partnership with other members of the criminal organization V. Yanukovych liquefied gas, worth about 2.2 billion UAH", – said Lutsenko.

The attorney General added that in the near future to access the materials produced by the defence and direct the case to the court.

As reported, in July 2017, the Pechersky regional court of Kiev granted permission to conduct a special investigation against former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov in the case of "Ukrtelecom".

Earlier, in may 2017 Lutsenko announced the completion of pre-trial investigation into the illegal privatization of national operator Ukrtelecom, on obtaining the permission of the court in absentia conviction of former President Viktor Yanukovych, ex-Prime Minister Azarov, ex-Finance Minister Yuri Kolobov. It is expected the court's decision to permit in absentia conviction of former first Vice-Premier Sergey Arbuzov.

Later, in comments to journalists, Lutsenko said: "as for Azarov. Yes, indeed, we have completed the investigation into the theft of about 220 million UAH in the creation of a special system of Ukraine. Personally Yanukovych instructed Azarov, the Minister of Finance, and then they illegally made changes to the budget voted by Parliament, and these funds were disbursed from the state budget".

In this case Kolobov has been arrested in the resort town of Altea in the Autonomous region of Valencia (Spain) in early March 2015. However, the General Prosecutor of Ukraine has refused Spain to extradite him.

In February 2018, the Pechersky district court has satisfied the petition of the General Prosecutor's office and freed from criminal liability ex-Finance Minister Yury Kolobov in connection with the expiration of the limitation period. As the lawyer said the Minister Igor Fomin, other cases against the Minister there.

Yuriy Kolobov was Finance Minister from February 2012 to February 2014. He was held as a suspect in the embezzlement of UAH 220 million allocated for the construction of telecommunication networks of special purpose. Besides him, the suspects also ex-the President Victor Yanukovych, ex-Premier Mykola Azarov and former first Deputy Prime Minister and former head of the national Bank Sergei Arbuzov.
