First Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, member of the Ukrainian delegation to the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Iryna Gerashchenko during the discussion in PACE of the situation in Syria called for tougher sanctions against Russia over the misuse of the veto in the UN Security Council.

As reported mediaUA about this Gerashchenko wrote on Facebook.

"I called for tougher sanctions against Russia, which abuses its veto, blocking all the decisions of the UN security Council. The impunity of the Russian Federation deepens the humanitarian catastrophe in Syria and Ukraine. Russia, which had to be disposed of chemical weapons used against Syrian children. In Ukraine, the Russian Federation uses prohibited by the Ottawa Convention landmines and heavy weapons, to Salisbury – chemical substance "Newbie", all this from complete impunity. We are obliged to strengthen sanctions against the Russian Federation, which conducts subversive activities in the EU, provokes migration crises and security challenges", – said Gerashchenko.

In her opinion, the responsibility for the situation in Syria is the responsibility of all international organizations and institutions, because "we allow this impunity".
