The head of delegation of European Union to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli concerned that the members of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on preventing and combating corruption decided to initiate the review Yegor Sobolev (faction "Samopomich") as head of the Committee, indicating international concern about the current events in the fight against corruption in Ukraine.

"We are concerned that most members of the Committee for the fight against corruption has decided to recommend to Parliament the dismissal of the head of the Committee, Mr. Sobolev. I would like to encourage Parliament to think carefully before such recommendation will be voted in plenary meeting, taking into account the international concern about current events in the fight against corruption in Ukraine", – is spoken in the answer of the Ambassador of the EU to the appropriate Agency's request on Wednesday.
He also stressed that in recent years Ukraine has taken important steps to intensify the fight against corruption, also noting the contribution of the anti-corruption Committee.
"In recent years, the Committee on combating corruption under the presidency of the current head of Sobolev made a very important and impressive work to assist in the creation of new bodies to combat corruption and ensure that Ukraine has fulfilled the conditions of the action plan on visa liberalization (VLAP), aimed at combating corruption. Every citizen of Ukraine and Ukraine's friends can be proud of these achievements," said H. Mingarelli.

The diplomat warned against any derogation in the anti-corruption reforms. "We need to protect the new institutions such as the National anti-corruption Bureau. They must be given the space and resources to work to demonstrate results in the struggle with corrupt officials. An important role is played by Parliament and anti-corruption Committee," added H. Mingarelli.
According to him, attempts to undermine the fight against corruption will be a setback to the reform process in Ukraine and will not go unnoticed.
As previously reported, members of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on preventing and combating corruption recognized the work of the Committee head Yegor Sobolev (faction "Samopomich") is unsatisfactory and decided to initiate before the Verkhovna Rada the procedure for its revocation from the post of head of the Committee.
